Shipping Original Artwork Internationally: What to Expect When You Order from Mirasol Arts
Share
One of the most common questions we receive from international buyers is: how does shipping work for original paintings? It's a fair question — original art is fragile, valuable, and irreplaceable. Here's a transparent breakdown of how we handle shipping from our studio in Spain to collectors worldwide.
How We Package Original Paintings
Every painting is packaged with care before it leaves the studio. Our standard process:
- The canvas surface is protected with glassine or acid-free tissue paper to prevent contact with packaging materials
- The framed work is wrapped in bubble wrap (bubbles facing outward, away from the paint surface)
- The wrapped painting is placed in a custom-sized rigid cardboard box with foam corner protectors and additional padding
- For larger works, we use double-walled boxes or wooden crates where appropriate
We've shipped originals across Europe, to the UK, the US, and beyond — and our packaging is designed to withstand the rigours of international transit.
Shipping Times
Delivery times vary by destination:
- Within Spain: 2–4 business days
- Europe (EU): 5–8 business days
- UK, US, Canada, Australia: 7–14 business days
- Rest of world: 10–20 business days
All shipments include tracking, and you'll receive a tracking number by email once your order has been dispatched.
Customs and Import Duties
For orders outside the EU, customs duties and import taxes may apply depending on your country's regulations. These charges are the responsibility of the buyer and are not included in the shipping cost at checkout.
Original artworks are typically classified under a specific customs code (HS 9701) that attracts lower duty rates than most goods in many countries — but we recommend checking with your local customs authority if you're concerned about potential charges before ordering.
We declare all shipments accurately and at full value. We do not under-declare or mark shipments as gifts.
What Happens If a Painting Is Damaged in Transit?
In the rare event that a painting arrives damaged, please photograph the damage (including the packaging) immediately and contact us within 48 hours of delivery. We work with our shipping partners to resolve claims and will do everything we can to make it right.
Why the Shipping Cost?
International art shipping is more expensive than standard parcel delivery because of the specialist packaging, the size and weight of framed canvases, and the need for reliable, tracked carriers. We keep our shipping costs as low as possible while ensuring your painting arrives safely.
For context: a large framed original like Petal Symphony (122×62 cm) requires a substantial custom box and careful handling at every stage of transit. The shipping cost reflects that reality.
